Getting the most out of uncapped frame rates

Last updated July 20, 2026

Emulade ships with the frame cap off by default, but it's worth confirming your settings match what your monitor can actually do. See Chasing 240 Hz on the blog for how frame pacing works under the hood.

Setting your target refresh rate

  1. Open Settings, then Performance.
  2. Under Frame Rate, choose Match Display to automatically sync to your monitor's reported refresh rate, or set a manual target if you'd rather cap it yourself.
  3. Restart the running instance for the change to apply.

Confirming it's working

Turn on the on-screen frame counter (Settings, then Overlay, then Show Frame Rate) and watch it during gameplay. A properly synced session should hover near your display's refresh rate rather than sitting flat at 60 or spiking erratically.

If it's still sitting at 60 no matter what you set, see why my frame rate is stuck at 60 FPS.
